Nodes
Nodes are graphical representations of the structure of a guideline document. The guideline structure is displayed in the left pane, and the information about the selected node (segment, element, composite, code list, and so on) related
to the node's position and its function in the guideline is displayed in the right pane of the Guideline Editor.
The following tasks are available from the context menu or by using
for the node you selected in the left pane of the Guideline Editor:
Note: You cannot edit envelope segments as they are read-only nodes.
Include/Exclude
|
Marks a node as included
or excluded in the guideline. An excluded node cannot be
used within a guideline, but can be reincorporated by selecting Include. Other components use this information
during operations such as exporting a guideline.
Note To view excluded nodes, enable the Show Excluded option in the left pane.
|
Insert Sibling
|
Creates a new, valid node, such as a loop, segment, composite, or element in the EDI guidelines. The available node type options may vary depending on the type of node you select. |
Add Child
|
Creates a new nested node within the selected node. The available options may vary depending on the type of node you select. A new node is always added as a first child. |
Move Up/ Move Down
|
Moves the selected node up or down and changes the order of the node's children. |
Delete
|
Removes the node permanently from the guideline document. The node cannot be reincorporated into the guideline after it has been removed. |

key fields for the validation engine to link the data file to the
guideline.
Note Node properties available for editing vary depending on the standard of the guideline you edit.
- Click Save to save your changes and close the dialog or Cancel to revert your changes and close the dialog.
Note When you are working on the properties of the selected node, you can click Revert changes to revert the changes you made to this node till the time you navigate away from the node.
Retrieve a node's UPath
Smart Trading Cloud Repository allows you to retrieve a node's UPath. A UPath is the selection language that determines the location of a node within a guideline tree. It allows you to specifically identify any node in a guideline tree, starting either from the top or the bottom of a tree. A UPath consists of data node names, attributes, and/or steps, separated by the special characters (slashes (/), dots (.), and so on).
To retrieve a node's UPath:
- Open the required guideline document.
- Select the required node, and then in the right pane, next to the name of the node, click
.
- In the Paths dialog, click
to copy the corresponding UPath(s):- Runtime UPath: A path that is represented in a way compatible with runtime.
- Forward UPath: All steps in the path are separated by slashes (/). The notation reads left to right.
In the Guideline Editor, you can also create notes to add a specific description to any guideline node.
