Manage Logs and Events

On the Logs and Events pages of the Monitoring service, you can:

  • View the list of log/event entries uploaded from a selected source.
  • View a summarized log/event description.
  • Select the log/event attributes you would like to display in the list.
  • Specify the time period and filter by log/event attributes to find the required logs/events quickly.
  • Remove old logs/events from the remote server. This option is available for account administrators only.

On the Logs/Events page of the Monitoring service, logs/events are displayed as a list of clear, legible entries with attributes. As logs/events are composed differently in different sources, they contain different attributes. This means, when you change the source folder for the logs/events, the set of attributes that the logs/events contain changes.

You can select which attributes to display based on your requirements.

To manage a set of displayed attributes:

  1. On the Logs/Events page, in Source, select the source from where you want to upload logs/events.
  2. In the pane with listed log/event entries, click . The Manage List View dialog is displayed.
  3. In the Available Attributes, select an attribute you want displayed, and then click to move the attribute to the View Attributes.
  4. - or -

    In the View Attributes, select an attribute you do not want displayed, and then click to move the attribute to the Available Attributes.

  5. Click Apply.

To find a log/event, you can:

  • Specify the time period when the log was reported/event occurred.
  • Enter a free-form text in the Search field to find the log/event by its message or attributes.
  • Use filters to search by attributes.

To filter logs/events:

  1. On the Logs/Events page, click to expand filters.
  2. In the Filters dialog, click Add, and then select the required filter.
  3. Select an operator for your filter (for example, is, is not, is one of, is not one of, exists, not exists, and so on) and enter a value for the operator if the corresponding field appears.
  4. To add more filters, repeat Steps 2 and 3.
  5. To remove a filter, click next to it.
  6. Click Apply.

To clear the Monitoring service from the logs/events that are no longer required, you can purge logs/events.

To purge logs/events:

  1. On the Logs/Events page, click . The Purge Logs/Purge Events dialog is displayed.
  2. In Delete logs older than/Delete events older than, select the number of days. Logs/events reported earlier are removed.
  3. - or -

    In Delete logs older than/Delete events older than, select Delete All to purge all logs/events. Select Drop source if you want to remove the current source from the service. This operation removes all data from the source (a log access rule, logs, events).

  4. Click Purge, and then click Yes.

To restrict access to specific log entries and attributes, you must set access permissions.
